We are Wayne and Jennie Hodge. We have been married for 29 years, and have one daughter married to a great guy. Our kennel is located on a 160 acre farm in the rolling hills of southern middle TN. I started coon hunting when I was little, and have always been involved with some kind of dog ever since. After 15 years of showing and hunting in professional hunts we started looking for a breed to raise for family pets and protection. A friend of ours gave us our first American Bulldog in 1992 and we fell in love with the breed. We are now breeding 100% Johnson bloodlines all of our American Bulldogs that we are breeding have gone thru extensive health test including temperament, hip and elbow test. Here at Hickory Hollow Kennels we are breeding for a big American Bulldog that has good movement, good bone, and good conformation. Our kennels consist of twelve 5ftx16ft runs under the main part, three 60ft x 60ft outside pens, and one 1 acre outside pen and most of the time I have two or three of them with me on the farm at all times. All of our American Bulldogs are exercised every day and fed twice a day. We are dedicated to preserving the Johnson bloodlines that Mr. Johnson produced.
The Johnson American bulldog is a powerful, athletic and loyal companion that can be adapted to just about any kind of lifestyle. They love to have a job to do even if it is a simple as retrieving a paper or a ball and they excel in weight pulling and everyday farm work. Mr. Johnson's American Bulldogs were used a lot in keeping him and his livestock safe from packs of wild dogs. The Johnson American Bulldog as we know it today is the closest thing to the the bulldogs from England from the 1600 to 1700 time period. If you will look at some old pictures of these bulldogs they were very close in appearance.
Mr. Johnson left us with a great legacy after bringing these great American Bulldogs from near extinction back in the 70's, and a special thanks to Scott and Susie Weaver for helping Mr. Johnson in his later years, or the Johnson American Bulldogs would not be where they are today. The Johnson community is like a big family we all get together once a year and its just like going to a family reunion! Once you get one of these great American Bulldogs you will be hooked, there is nothing like them! They become a big part of your family and life we could not imagine ours without them.
Anytime your in Tennessee stop by and see us, you are welcome any time! We would love to show you our American bulldogs!
